Don't schedule a gourmet night out while in Valdez, but the dining selection will satisfy for the night or two you're here.

The best all-round restaurant is Oscar's, 143 N Harbor Drive (phone 907/835-4700), with its harbor views and varied menu of diner favorites, fast food, and a nightly all-you-can-eat barbecue ($15).

Next door, Mike's Palace (phone 907/835-2365) dishes up Italian-oriented fare along with burgers and Mexican dishes.

Oil-boom survivor The Pipeline Club, 136 Egan Drive (phone 907/835-4332), is worth a try for top-quality steak and seafood, and its lively dark bar.
