Ferries and two independent operators arrive daily from Haines at the foot of the main thoroughfare, Broadway, and just a block from the train station from where two to five trains a day run over the White Pass to Fraser, British Columbia. Here you can connect with buses to Whitehorse, Yukon. Alaska Direct buses (phone 1-800/780-6652) also run daily in summer direct to Whitehorse ($35), from where trips run to Anchorage ($145) and Fairbanks ($120) three times a week; Alaskon Express offers a similar service from the Westmark Inn on Third Avenue (phone 907/983-2241). Skagway is very compact, and most of the sights can easily be seen on foot. The Klondike Gold Rush National Park visitor center , Broadway at second Avenue (May & Sept daily 8am-6pm; June-Aug daily 8am-8pm; phone 907/983-2921), holds talks, leads walking tours, and has historical displays and an impressive movie about the Gold Rush, as well as maps and information on the Chilkoot Trail. |
Skagway's visitor center (summer daily 8am-6pm; phone 907/983-2854 or 1-888/762-1898, ) is on Broadway between Second and Third avenues in the Arctic Brotherhood Hall building. Ferries: Phone: 907/983-2229
